Palliative Care Centre is proving effective in caring and treating of patients suffering from incurable diseases – Health Minister
- Health Minister releases poster on ‘My Care-My Comfort’ theme on Palliative Care Day
Jaipur, October 10. Health Minister Dr Raghu Sharma said that the second ‘Palliative Care Centre’ of the North India is in Rajasthan, which is proving very effective in taking care and treating patients suffering from incurable diseases.
Dr Sharma on the occasion of Palliative Care Day released a poster on ‘My Care-My Comfort’ theme on Saturday from his residence. He said that ‘Palliative Care’ is relatively the latest medical system in the country, through which patients with incurable diseases (kidney, respiratory, lung, cancer, neuralgia, paralysis, spinal cord) are taken care and treated. He said those patients, who are not in a position to come to hospital, can get medical facilities at home through the centre. Services of counsellor are provided regularly for the psychological support of the patients with incurable diseases.
The Health Minister said that three senior faculty members including a professor and two assistant professors have been appointed in this unit being run at the SMS Hospital. Everyday patients of arthritis, slip disc, cancer are treated at its OPD.
It is to be noted that the facility of Palliative Care has been running since August 2014 with the help of an America based NGO, Jeevdaya Foundation. Looking at the increasing number of patients and the benefits offered from the year 2014 to 2020, the government started this facility in the State by making a new department at Sawai Man Singh Hospital. It is to be mentioned that this department is second in North India after AIIMS, New Delhi.
Head of the Department Dr Ashwin Mathur, Dr Gaurav Sharma, Dr Yogendra Singhal, Dr Vikas Gupta and other department officers were present during the release of the poster.
